Bridal Package

A few months ago my younger twin sister got married. Ok, I don't really have a twin sister, but sometimes we act like it and we were born on the same day just 7 years apart! Anyway, she got married and for her bridal shower I made her a bunch of stuff. Some I had made before other not so much.

First up is a coupon organizer, I found the idea here

Second is a recipe box, I am pretty pleased with how this turned out. I think it is cute!

I made her a meal planner that I downloaded from this blog

This is the whole package. The other thing I didn't describe is kinda hard to take pictures of. It is what I call a Family Organization book. I was lucky enough to get one from a friend from my wedding. So now I make them for other people. It has page protectors and section to help newlyweds get all their vital information organized. It has been so helpful in my life that I like to pass it on!

So that is what I was doing in September and October, craft wise, oh yeah and making jewelry for the bridal party, flower girl, sisters and yeah a lot of people. It was crazy, but I liked it!!

A Baby Sprinkle

My sister in law Wendy and my brother recently had a baby girl, their 2nd daughter and 3rd child. Well I wanted to help set them up  for the impending arrival. However, I have never thrown anyone a shower (by the way a diaper shower  is now called a Baby Sprinkle, apparently it is cooler than Diaper shower....whatever). So because of my sister in laws work schedule we had a hard time finding a date, we finally settled on Aug 28 (Wendy's Birthday). So I emailed out the invitation (SOOOO much cheaper and faster, I was done in less than an hour), recruited some help and this is how it turned out.

Thanks to my awesome sister in law Nancy who threw her sister a baby shower the weekend before, and then let us use all her decorations. It looked so cute!

So here is where the real fun begins. I decided that I wanted to make her a car seat tent, so I borrowed their old car seat so I could make it the right size. Days before the shower I decided that we (my sisters, Mom and me) should all pull together and get them a new car seat, since theirs was about 6 or more years old. So I looked around and found one on sale at Target that happened to be the same model as their old one. So I came up with a genious plan, we would try and fool them into thinking that the car seat was their old one using the car seat tent. We filled it with the stuff that we (my Mom and I) made and put the car seat tent over it. Both Wendy and my brother Nathan were fooled! Wendy thought that I had made a new car seat cover, but was then informed that the whole thing was new. It was awesome!

But back to the craft the car seat tent was really easy to make and is SO cute! I found the tutorial here. This was the second time I made one and they are so easy, even for a sewer who has no idea what she is doing.

I also made her this Diaper clutch. I have one and love it so I made her one to match the car seat tent. I found the tutorial here

The diaper clutch I had never made before and for a beginning sewer like me it was a little confusing and, I will admit, a little frustrating. But when the light bulb finally turned on, it made perfect sense and was then pretty easy. I even think that I might have an easier way of doing it. I will have to try it out and let you know if it worked.

But all in all I think that the shower went well and that my homemade stuff was pretty darn cute. Not bad for a first timer!

Hair Flowers

As with most things I am a newbie. I have never made a lot of things. Like for example a flower hairclip, or whatever you call it. But my sister is getting married in less than a month, and for some reason I volunteered to make a flower for her hair! What was I thinking! OK to be fair it was really easy. But still it stressed me out because I didn't know how to do it, and I wanted to do it right (I am kind of a perfectionist). So here is the end result. And this is how I did it. I went and bought a regular white rose from Michaels (I think it was $1.99), then unceremoniously took it apart. Poor rose never stood a chance. Basically you rip off the bottom which frees the whole thing, mostly. Then you have to take out the plastic middle part. Then you have the petals to play with. I took of a few layers and like it better, it laid down better. Then I took a button, the fancy kind with the hook at the bottom and sewed to a circular piece of white felt. But that wasn't as sturdy as I was hoping so I brought out the gun....the glue gun. Things worked well from there. Then I strung some little pearls that I got from Joann's ($1.39 ish) on elastic and glued then around the button. Finally I got a clip from on younger sisters unused old hairclips and glued that to the felt. WA-LAH! Mission accomplished! Next time I make one I will have to take pictures of the process, but since this was a first timer I was flying by the seat of my pants.

So my newest niece was born this afternoon. While my son was "napping" (if singing to yourself is napping, I nap ALL the time), I decided to make some jewelry for the sweet little one and her mother. They didn't take me long at all, once I decided what colors and such. So here they are, not fancy, but I think cute!
I couldn't get a real good picture of the earrings, but hopefully you get the idea.
Two bracelets for the little one, hopefully they fit. I haven't seen her yet, I am a little excited....can you tell?

To do List

So here is my plan, I will post all of the projects that I have in the works or ideas that I have and then I can come back here and link them up something fancy like that (oh yeah I am really good at run-on sentences....sometimes).
1. Super cute interchangable flip flops . I found the idea here
2. Also super cute hooded towel. Also found the idea here
3. Succeed at making a car seat tent. Found here
4. Awesome Diaper Keeper. Found here
5. Refashion some unwanted clothes
6. Make a Jean quilt
7. Make a bedroom set for my son.
8. Make a full apron. Tutorial found here

I will be adding to this as we go, but here is what I can think of right now. But since I frequently forget things that I want to make until something reminds me, I know there is more stuff!

What am I doing here

Ok, well I know that there are a lot of craft blogs out there and that another one might not be something special. However that is where you would be wrong. The special thing here is that I consider myself to be the least creative person I know (and I know a lot of un-creative people). So any craft or sewing project I do AND am happy with is such an accomplishment for me. So this blog is a happy place for me to celebrate my occasional stroke of genius. If four some odd reason you are inspired by one of my creations or copy cats of some elses creation then I am just on a role!!!
