My sister in law Wendy and my brother recently had a baby girl, their 2nd daughter and 3rd child. Well I wanted to help set them up for the impending arrival. However, I have never thrown anyone a shower (by the way a diaper shower is now called a Baby Sprinkle, apparently it is cooler than Diaper shower....whatever). So because of my sister in laws work schedule we had a hard time finding a date, we finally settled on Aug 28 (Wendy's Birthday). So I emailed out the invitation (SOOOO much cheaper and faster, I was done in less than an hour), recruited some help and this is how it turned out.
Thanks to my awesome sister in law Nancy who threw her sister a baby shower the weekend before, and then let us use all her decorations. It looked so cute!
So here is where the real fun begins. I decided that I wanted to make her a car seat tent, so I borrowed their old car seat so I could make it the right size. Days before the shower I decided that we (my sisters, Mom and me) should all pull together and get them a new car seat, since theirs was about 6 or more years old. So I looked around and found one on sale at Target that happened to be the same model as their old one. So I came up with a genious plan, we would try and fool them into thinking that the car seat was their old one using the car seat tent. We filled it with the stuff that we (my Mom and I) made and put the car seat tent over it. Both Wendy and my brother Nathan were fooled! Wendy thought that I had made a new car seat cover, but was then informed that the whole thing was new. It was awesome!
But back to the craft the car seat tent was really easy to make and is SO cute! I found the tutorial
here. This was the second time I made one and they are so easy, even for a sewer who has no idea what she is doing.
I also made her this Diaper clutch. I have one and love it so I made her one to match the car seat tent. I found the tutorial
here
The diaper clutch I had never made before and for a beginning sewer like me it was a little confusing and, I will admit, a little frustrating. But when the light bulb finally turned on, it made perfect sense and was then pretty easy. I even think that I might have an easier way of doing it. I will have to try it out and let you know if it worked.
But all in all I think that the shower went well and that my homemade stuff was pretty darn cute. Not bad for a first timer!
